Repackable Multi-plane Banyan-Type Optical Switching Fabrics

The multi-plane banyan-type switching fabric is a very promising architecture for building nonblocking optical switches. To avoid blocking states many copies of planes, i.e. log2N switching fabrics are connected in parallel, so we call this structure multi-plane. In this paper, repackably nonblocking multi-plane banyan-type switching fabrics are considered. Two repacking algorithms for multi-plane banyan-type fabrics are proposed. A new condition for the number of planes under these algorithms is also delineated. The main advantage of proposed algorithms is the time complexity to a connection set up time. In Algorithm 4 this complexity is equal to O(1), which means that a new connection can be set up immediately, without any delay.
